LANDSCAPE DESIGN PORTFOLIO
AVIEMORE
In this group project we had to redesign
the town of Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands. The whole project was
focused in designing at rural scale in areas of special conservation and with heavy fluctuations.
The concept for our proposal was
roots, we wanted people to take Aviemore backs to his origins (settled as a crossroad town and around a train station) and to make it fit more succesfully in its surrounding landscape.
The design starts by densifying the high street and giving more structure to this main axis. Most of the buildings in the high street are currently just shops. In our proposal these will be three story buildings with a groundfloor used for commercial purposes or other services and residential on top.
Secondly, our project encourages a transition between this new, denser high street and the MacDonald Resort, while also create a transition towards the more residential area north of the site.
East of the town, the current flood plain, barely accessible and only used for grazing, will be integrated in the new town scheme and will provide recreational spaces.
