THE IMAGE OF THE CITY

Kevin Lynch

EXPLANATION

In the third chapter, The City Image and its Elements, of The Image of the City Kevin Lynch describes nodes as one of the key elements that form a city. Lynch
describes these nodes as “points, the strategic spots in a city [...], which gain their importance from being the condensation of some use or physical character [...]. Some of these concentration nodes are the focus and epitome of a district, over which their influence radiates and of which they stand as a symbol”.

REFLECTION

In the context of my project, a node would be a part of this armature located on selected communities that lay on the edges of the city. The aim is that these influence the expansion of the city. These nodes will lay the “foundations” or frame the new areas to be developed, so these grow in safe, resilient areas, with close access to services and opportunities for development and existing connections. These nodes should have strong programs in terms of production, recreation, commercial activity and community services.
