EXPLANATION

In 2010 Ed Wall and Yael Bar-Maor developed an installation called Roaming Forest for the 2010 Landscape Urbanism Biennale in Israel. The installation consisted of a set of trees in boxes with wheels that were placed in a public square so people could move them around and create new forms of public space. The idea was to eventually plant the trees in the spot where the box broke. With this intervention, the designers explored new ways of creating public space through the local community.

REFLECTION

Unlike most developments in big cities in developed countries, when once construction is finished, it is finished, informal settlements are always growing, changing, evolving. As designers we must be aware of this and introduce the dynamics and behaviour of the place into our design.
